Hot Witches Through Herstory

Lady Godiva

* Lady Godiva

Her story dates back to the 11th century. She was married to Leofric ‪III Earl of Mercia who had earned his title through success in business. They moved to Coventry in central England where in 1043 they founded and funded an abbey in Honor of Eunice, and early martyr slain ‪by the R‪omans. The abbey soon became a social focus for the town, where her husband used his high position in business to impose what Godiva viewed as excessive taxes. She tried to persuade him to lower‪ the taxes for the townspeople, to which he responded that he would if she rode naked down main street. He was shocked when she agreed for the sake of the people. The day Godiva‪ made her historic ride, the townspeople stayed inside their houses in honor of her modesty. Except for peeping Tom. Still to this day Coventry celebrates an annual Godiva festival.

GLOBAL WARMING AND FRANKENSTORM...A little advice and encouragement to all who suffers from Hurricane Sandy:

We were born into this system in which we had no say in the making. A century ago they thought they were doing the best they could to improve the conditions of the human race, but they set the system up wrong and now we, the animals , and all of nature must pay. These kinds of colossal storms breaking out don't even need to be a wake up call or a reminder to the error of our ways as a race. We are already well aware of global warming and the error of our ways, but what can we do to stop the spiral? Changing little habits every day and being aware of our impact on a bigger level helps but essentially our system is broken and its going to take a lot to break the old patterns and build anew. Nostradamus and other profits predict the end and rebirth of our time on earth now. How we operate is not sustainable, but their prophecy did not say it was the end of the world, as so many have misquoted, actually it is a new era.

The age of Pisces (the fish) and Jesus is waning and a new era, Aquarius, a time of femininity and thinking out of the box is upon us.

We can no longer go by the rules of man, for they have always been wrong, when we go by the rules of Nature and understand what this is the ultimate governing power are we can live in harmony, though in the beginning it may be more difficult to shift. May the Goddess bless and protect you my friends in the eastern sea board and all of those effected by Hurricane Sandy. Find peace in your hearts and safety for your selves and homes. We are all in this together!

Magic Blessings,

Dame Darcy

Dame Darcy

I have been following Dame Darcy's career for several years, ever since we met on a book and music tour with Lisa Crystal Carver. Dame Darcy has been writing and illustrating a hilariously mischievous and zany comic book series called Meat Cake since those wonder years, in addition to writing music; making films, videos, dolls and crafts; performing sea shanties on a banjo while dressed as a mermaid; producing shows; painting murals; hanging out with celebrities; freaking out jocks on reality TV shows; and, well, I don't know if there's anything this DIY Gemini witch princess doesn't do. Once upon a time, she painted a giant unicorn on my living room wall as a housewarming gift. What a gal! Her newest project, Handbook for Hot Witches, is here to take the guesswork out of things like making healthy raw food snacks and manifesting your dreams. There are even some re-written fairy tales with a feminist slant so that the girls win in the end on their own without having to rely on a prince to make their wishes come true. Disney should have been writing these stories decades ago! I recently sat down with Dame Darcy at the gorgeous House of Collectionin Williamsburg and asked her a few questions about her book, her fashion sense and her politics. It was a lot of fun, because in addition to being superbly talented, a feminist and a visionary artist with a cool name, she's got a dazzling way with words. Check out this exclusive video of our conversation right here:

And now, for a real life happy ending to this blurb: Dame Darcy will be celebrating her official New York book release party for Handbook for Hot Witches on Thursday, October 11th at Forbidden Planet Comics' new location on 832 Broadway at 12th Street. What a great way to celebrate the International Day of the Girl. Can't make it? No big D! While she's in town, she'll also be presenting her books and original art at Smartclothes Gallery (154 Stanton Street in the Lower East Side) on Saturday, October 13th at 6:30 PM. For more information or to order her book, visit www.damedarcy.com. Best wishes to you and many thanks! Dame Darcy

Final Handbook cover

After all these years of writing the Handbook for Hot Witches section in this blog, they have all finally been compiled and put into an adorable little handy book for teens. Keep your eyes peeled for the release by Holt Publishers on August 21st!

A little background on my latest graphic novel:

Handbook For Hot Witches is here to inspire young women and teach them how to make a difference in their personal lives and in the world.

The graphic novel also empathizes with the current situation the world is in and shows the symbiotic relationship that women have to mother nature.

Respecting the earth is respecting womenkind, and respecting yourself. The information and insight within this book, is something daughters, mothers, and grandmothers can all relate to, connect with, and remember. Be sure to preorder the book because the more preorders I get, the more books published!

Also be sure and check out this awesome inspirational video for hot witches made by my wonderful crew and me.

Speaking of my wonderful crew, I now have an official House of Dame Darcy studio for us all to work in! It's located at 1702 Bull St. in Savannah, so if you're in the neighborhood please stop by. I'll be selling my Etsy items there as well.

photo-5I've been working hard, painting and designing so that everything fits that Dame Darcy magicality!

When you step inside, the front two display rooms look like you're living in a big ice cream cake made out of butterflies and roses, yum! And the other room is for mermaid tea parties, naturally.

I am very excited to share this with you all. We're going to have fun art exhibits, fashion shows, dance parties, doll crafting and it's also the headquarters for producing our new online game based on my comic, Meat Cake, called Paper Doll Dreams soon to be released!

Watch for new downloadable comics and graphic novels and animated e-cards coming soon! Also, be sure and look around the blog because I've got some new information and pictures up for my Etsy site

Thank you all for taking the time to read about my new happenings! I appreciate it very much. I am looking forward to seeing where my journey takes me next. I've learned that in order to succeed, you must nurture yourself and your craft by believing in and sending positive thoughts out to the world- and if that doesn't work, just continue to send love. Thanks to Beth Vantosh, Kyle Hoover, and the awesome intern team for making these dreams come true :)

Love and best wishes,

Dame Darcy

The tall ships came to Savannah and it was the best day of my life.
It was an awesome timeless event that would have been the same in the 1800's
as it is now. Costumes, Shanties, Seafood, puppet shows, little dinghies rowing around painted up like pirate ships.
I finally went aboard the Bounty, which was built for the 1960 MGM studio's Mutiny on the Bounty. It was an amazing replica, all black and gold with a lot of real teak and a bowsprit lady.
Apparently the captain of this ship navigated himself back to civilization in a rowboat and got back in 40 days after his crew had turned against him for being a jerk. The newer ships are apparently painted to have a simulated look but are steel or fiberglass. They don't make em’ like that anymore.
My favorite was the simply astounding Dewaruci, from the navy in Surabaya, Indonesia. Sporting flags from all over the world, amazing hand carved masts, really wonderful Indonesian spiced smelling food, a band, AND then the sailors paraded down the dock beating drums and wearing their Walrus hats. Now that's entertainment!
The Picton Castle from Avatiu Rarotonga in the Cook Islands tried to seduce me into crewing with them, oh how my very marrow wanted to just call it a life and go sail away to crew the islands with them, my only concern in life, to be swabbing the poop deck.

^v^ Hand Book For Hot Witches ^v^

It's new years and a time to make resolutions. This year my resolution is to truly forgive anyone who has ever hurt me and forgive myself.
To see things through a lens of compassion, light, liberty and life. The darkness of fear can instantly be dispelled by true love and the muck of depression and confusion can be lifted through light. All men are fallible and even the best ones with the best intentions can make mistakes. But the universal law will never fail anyone. The sun rise’s every day, the birds sing, the trees go into hibernation and bloom again in the spring. This law is ever present, stable and all-powerful. There is no way to lose as long as it is what my heart is connected to. I chant Nam-myoho-renge-kyo in a cycle to meditate and these words connect my heart to the law. Let this light be like the strong arm of the man with the lantern that leads the lady through the dark woods.
This month has shown me many ups and downs but ultimately connecting to the truth has set me free and I will do all I can to maintain this stable place.
